2.4 Components: Clone & Predefine


Kickstart each new project with a set of predefined or cloned components.

Project & Issue Templates for Jira allows to automatically create components with every created project/target project. To do that admins can either specify a ‘Component source project’ to clone existing components from, or predefine a set of new custom components.

  1. Click either on ‘2. Configure template settings and predefine components/versions/issues' in the dialog or on the settings icon in under Actions.

  1. In the template settings modal, click on the tab ‘Components’

Clone existing components

After project creation, the app will clone all components from the specified ‘Component source project’ to the newly created project/target project.

Edit the component source project

  1. Click on the ‘edit icon’

  2. Select the project you want to use as ‘Component source project’

  1. Click on ‘Save’

Notes:

  • New custom templates will add the source project as component, versions & project role actors source project automatically.

  • You can click on the ‘trash icon’ to delete the component source project to avoid cloning components.

After selection, a refreshable counter will display the current amount of components that will be cloned form the source project.

Predefine new components

  1. Click on ‘Predefine custom component’

  2. Specify the new component

  • Component lead options:

    • None

    • Project creator

    • Project lead

    • Placeholder
      (Select a user picker placeholder)

    • Custom (Select a custom user)

  • Default assignee options:

    • Project default

    • Component lead

    • Project lead

    • Placeholder
      (Select a user picker placeholder)

    • Unassigned

  1. Click ‘Create’ to add a new predefined component to the project template settings.

  2. The predefined component will appear now in the template settings and can be either ‘Edited’ or ‘Deleted’

Editing or deleting predefined components, does not affect already created components in existing projects.
