Kickstart each new project with a set of predefined versions. Project Templates for Jira allows to automatically create versions with every created project. To do that admins can either specify a ‘Version source project’ to clone existing versions from, or predefine a set of new custom versions.

  1. Click either on ‘2. Configure template settings and predefine components/versions/issues' in the dialog or on the settings icon in under Actions.

  1. In the template settings modal, click on the tab ‘Versions

Clone existing version

After project creation, the app will clone all versions from the specified ‘Version source project’ to the newly created project.

Edit the version source project

  1. Click on the ‘edit icon’

  2. Select the project you want to use as ‘Version source project’

  1. Click on ‘Save’

Notes:

  • Archived versions are ignored and will not be cloned to the new project.

  • New custom templates will add the source project as component, versions & project role actors source project automatically.

  • You can click on the ‘trash icon’ to delete the version source project to avoid cloning versions.

Predefine new versions

  1. Click on ‘Predefine custom version’

  1. Specify the new version

  • Start date options:

    • None

    • Fixed date

    • Relative date
      (Number of days after project creation)

  • Release date options:

    • None

    • Fixed date

    • Relative date
      (Number of days after project creation)

  1. Click ‘Create’ to add a new predefined version to the project template settings.

  2. The predefined version will appear now in the template settings and can be either ‘Edited’ or ‘Deleted’
    (Editing or deleting predefined versions, does not affect already created versions in existing projects.)
